January 31, 2007 Ecuador’s Rafael Correa wants us to believe that he has encouraged non-violence against constitutional democracy in Ecuador. We do not buy his remarkable cover up even as we do not buy his in- the- toilet, or as Quitenos call them `dirty’ Ecuadorean bonds, which have tanked and are taking down Ecuador’s economy and global standing with it….right down the sewer of dirty deceptions.
With an obvious, willful effort to deceive, Correa belatedly called on his own paid thugs- his own special golpistas- to act with some decorum and not be quite so obvious in their violence yesterday (many were seen in the media wearing CORREA! tee shirts and waving their new red CHE! pro communism flags) after they had attacked the Congressional building. Correa’s spin team went in to overdrive to tell the hyperactive press that the National Police of Ecuador were on the job and performing their constitutional obligation to protect and defend Ecuador’s bodies of government such as their courts, assemblies and Congress. Correa barred police protection for the Congress of Ecuador for several hours on January 30, 2007 leaving Congresspersons bereft of any security, forcing them to flee. Hours after the violence performed by Correa’s thugs, the police showed up and fired tear gas in a for-show theatrical performance which tragically sent several to the hospital.
Rafael Correa has already broken the tenants of his high office by ignoring and subverting the obligations to protect the governmental entities of Ecuador while at the same time waging a very expensive self coup to force Ecuadoreans to hand him total powers….total constitutional powers which will cleverly and deceptively place his untrained, rudderless hands on every single lever of power in that country, thus assuring that megalomaniacs such as Chavez and Castro’s combined plan for Ecuador is enshrined with a finality of unending and binding destruction.
Rafael Correa, in his very, very short career (mostly hallmarked by on the job failure and job firings for incompetence and lies), has repeatedly proven himself as a clever and agile liar. He knowingly lied in his election campaign. He lied about his pledge to deliver protection to Ecuadoreans. He lied about his shallow college education, falsely calling himself a “Chicago school economist” when he attended a massive state school, tutored as he was to attack job-sustaining trade as the sole cause for poverty, even as he lied about his presidential agenda. His personal hatreds have pathologically overcome, or as they say “flooded” his common sense, what should have been a more rational, seasoned operational agenda expected of any presidential leader, especially as Ecuador deteriorates in to a failed state. Correa wants to- intends to- remove Ecuador’s democracy by any means possible. Nowhere is this more relevant than in the current Correa-backed physical and massive propaganda assault on Ecuador’s constitutionally-backed Congress. To put it simply: Rafael Correa believes that his Chavez-backed plan for Ecuador, once it is known, will be unpopular for Ecuadoreans who may not choose to live as Chavez’s oil baron serfs. Correa has noted that he must move fast- in under 90 days to prevent public knowledge of his plan to take total powers. By any means possible, this dangerous man is moving quickly when all rational thought must be applied and the train wreck about to happen should be slowed down for deliberation, fact finding and basic due diligence, all of which are deceivingly barred by Correa today.
Once Correa has his hands on all the levers of power in Ecuador, in about 18 months, it is roundly held, he will finally dismiss dollarization abruptly and will force a banking collapse, triggering staggering inflation and economic collapse. By then, Ecuador will be a pariah state serving only the Chavez and Castro regimes for fun and profit of the few.
This week, Ecuadoreans will probably breathe a sigh of relief that Correa has shown moderation and wisdom by publicly not canceling dollarization….yet. Correa’s team has illegally refused to perform its core obligation and has blithely failed to deliver its 2007 budget and has refused to state its economic objectives, all the while issuing numerous and conflicting reports with the incompetence we have come to expect of these ill-prepared, badly educated political persons looking more and more like adolescents set loose on a global stage. Correa’s team refuses to state for the record what they are doing and this barring of nominal obligations of state is unacceptable. Argentina’s Clarin reports this week that their Argentinean dollarization-busting team is on the ground in Ecuador this week to advise Correa’s team. As if there is anything useful to gain from this exercise at deception. However much Argentina has no competence or standing to advise on ending dollarization, since Argentina was never dollarized, seems to evade Correa’s nominal economy-busting goals which is of course all about forcing additional deadbeat activities for fun and profit. To be sure, this upcoming predictable pledge by Correa to stay the pending execution and death of dollarization, by Correa who hates dollarization and has every interest in plunging Ecuador in to six digit inflation for more fun and profit, is nothing but a faux bargaining chip/ a fake pledge as he is playing fast and dirty with the very future of Ecuador….its oil revenues. Correa will no doubt soon tell us this is the deal: `I will keep U.S. dollars and you must give me my constituent assembly to enable total powers. ‘
Ecuador today has no clue where it state revenues lie and could not even de-dollarize even if it wanted to as it holds no cash to even print new currency. It is doubtful that even the pro-remittances gang would overcome commonsense and force the World Bank or the IDB to give Ecuador fresh funds to print its way in to fiscal hell, plunging its regional Andean neighbors in to additional, unwelcome financial turmoil. There are many, such as CitiBank’s currency speculative team who are in fact privately and actively pressuring Ecuador to de-dollarize for their own fun and profit – speculative profit. The good of the whole should be taken in to account and no sane nation should set its house in order based on offshore- very very offshore-speculators and oil and bond derivatives and profiteering. U.S. and Ecuadorean foreign policy must never be the victims of offshore, murky speculators, profiteering from geo-economic instability, who insist that they are “statesmen” or hold foreign policy credentials when they…do not.
To be sure, Ecuador will neither warrant nor deserve the deceptive money laundering capability afforded under dollarization which today inexplicably exists as Ecuador’s banks operate with no anti-criminal statutes of any consequence, so ardently enjoyed by Ecuador’s leading banks to easily and profitably wash FARC and Hezbollah pesos in to U.S. dollars with no responsible questions asked. Ecuador’s bankers, the only real growth industry in Ecuador today, jealously guard their profitable wash and rinse cycle and have no affection for Correa’s ploy to suspend their money making schemes afforded under dollarization. Frankly, we see that Correa has no intention of harming his FARC supporters who fully enjoy Correa’s new welcome mat and Ecuador’s banking schemes for FARC and Hezbollah monies. As the U.S. ambassador to Ecuador has stated, it is well known that law and order and anti-corruption reforms are not on the Correa-Castro-Chavez agenda for Ecuador nor, inexplicably, on the U.S. agenda either nor will the U.S. even raise the curtain on the massive corruption scheme operating in Ecuador, preferring the crime assistance growth (also called banking and capitol markets) industry underway today in Ecuador. Tepid reports from the U.S. Department of State do solidly note that Ecuador is now a major white slavery, drugs and pirated pharmaceutical transshipment hub while paying scant attention to the burgeoning money laundering acts of the Correa-Chavez team, now enjoined with Iran’s Ahmadinejad under the new red flag of Ecuador: the flag of Chavez’s communism.
In fact, it is noteworthy that Rafael Correa’s Soros-style NGO clique of advisors and sycophants- his new politburo- have no clue how to run a nation, let alone provide stability and security since their only known “professions” are outside constructive behaviors and are based solely on past performances as thugs and political protesters of varying stripes. Correa’s cabal are from the highly paid upper tier of the NGO world sadly focused on the politics of hatred…they hate, among many things, the World Bank, they hate whatever they think is globalization and neo-conservatism, they hate Uribe’s Plan Colombia, they hate any attacks on the FARC and they of course hate President Bush even as they embrace Ahmadinejad, last seen holding hands with Bolivia’s Evo Morales, front and center stage at Correa’s swearing-in as Hugo Chavez prepared to ink as yet undisclosed, illegally opaque, binding agreements with Correa in perpetuity to sell off Ecuador’s future.
It is as if once the 1960s style communist agenda hippies, also called Correa’s backed violent golpistas, have seized power, as is the case in Ecuador, they have no clue what to do next except seize full powers, as is the case today. Incompetence killed 7 persons last week in a tragic helicopter crash. Incompetence is killing Ecuador’s future today.
Sane and responsible Latins, North Americans, and Europeans should be pressing the OAS to review Correa’s governmentally-backed violence yesterday against its constitutional democracy. The fake time line to cover over what Correa performed on January 30, 2007 to violently force out Ecuador’s constitution to “enable” his new total powers grab must be exposed and detailed at last. Correa’s auto-golpistas have renewed their paid job performance pledge to not stop until their constitutional democracy is destroyed. We ask: why does Correa pay for this and where is he getting his money to perform this criminal perversion?
More to the point is this: the OAS must act immediately to unravel the crass propaganda and disinformation underway by the Correa paid golpistas and press Correa to call off his own violent take over of Ecuador’s constitutional democracy. This is a serious matter and lies at the heart of events underway in the Andes.
Today Correa disingenuously tells the media that it is the fault of Ecuador’s constitutionally-backed Congress that they have suffered violence….because they did not surrender their mandate to uphold their constitution fast enough thus they are to blame.
Correa’s paid golpistas have gone too far. Their criminal intent is patently clear.
What is not clear is why US AID and Soros’s own International Crisis Group responded to yesterday’s illicit acts of violence against Ecuador’s constitutional democracy with the speed of light, speaking en loco parentis for the U.S. Embassy in Quito, itself silent in the face of the on-going acts against democratic principles underway in Ecuador. No sooner had the golpistas succeeded in ousting Ecuador’s Congress did Mark Schneider, himself well connected and well funded on Ecuadorean “issues” and probably supportive of Soros’s well-funded `alternative democracy’ movement, informed Bloomberg’s news of his opinions. As if.
Bloomberg’s reported yesterday with remarkable speed: “Correa will have to decide between negotiating with Congress or pressing his demands through social action,'' said Mark Schneider, vice president of the International Crisis Group, a policy research organization in Washington, DC.” To correct Schneider, en loco parentis for U.S. policy hacks, we note that Correa has clearly and patently made his choice; his intentions clear and this decision was made long ago. Just ask his paid, Correa uniform wearing, communist flag waving golpistas: they know that Correa’s orders are clear and the decision was made long ago to destroy Ecuador’s constitutional democracy by any means possible.
The Congress of Ecuador bravely intends to carry out its obligations today in the face of massive Chavez-backed violence, propaganda and KGB-style disinformation campaigns. We wish them safety and all security in the days ahead: they are the only thing formally standing between democracy and Hugo Chavez today in Ecuador and deserve all support, today sorely missing. It is neither a forgone conclusion that Correa will succeed in installing his totalitarian vision for Ecuador nor are we assured that the private sector, assaulted daily with well crafted anti-democracy propaganda, will defend Ecuador’s nascent democracy.
Freedom lovers will be watching closely.
