October 22, 2007  The Editors of ECrisis commend the leaders of the Venezuelan Catholic Church for their direct and clear position in support of human dignity and the God given right to basic liberties (read it here.) To those who claim this text is unfair or biased, we urge you to consider life without core freedoms, what your life would look like and urge you to work as a group toward sustaining basic liberty- abandoning the consequences of greed and self-serving, delusional thinking which always ends in entrapment, the suicide of hope, and societal misery.

Venezuelans are no longer free; Ecuadoreans are now mostly not free and will in a blink of an eye be not free at all, unless, like the local Ecuadorean schools, families, and the Church, we do not stand for our principles. The Church in Venezuela has made a profoundly principled stand and warrants full support and replication. We can only pray that Ecuadoreans- and their church leaders- rise to the challenge and enjoin positions of principle for the first time in a long time.
 
There is scant to zero distinction between Chavez Plan A for Venezuela and Chavez Plan B for Ecuador under Correa. Many of the actors are the same, the paid operatives are the same and the goals are the same. And those Cuban-backed goals are to cancel positions of principle and end liberty as it is known.
 
It is time.
