Correa and Chavez Cut Off Free Speech: WITHOUT FREE SPEECH and OPEN MEDIA, DEMOCRACY DIES
December 30, 2007 Basic human rights- and civil society demands- contain the right to speak and think freely. This in no way contains the right to cast harm by word or deed, infringing on another's right to move and speak freely nor impact their capacity to earn a living or suffer injuries. All of us needs must stand unified to protect and defend individual and collective rights to open media and free speech.
Ecuador's formal allies, Venezuela and Iran, want to not only restrict but kill free speech and open media. This is a goal of the Correa regime because it not only wants to shut down any opposition to its craven and illegal governmental Marxist political machinations, masking its self enrichment schemes, but also to boost its singular money making plans to boost its monopolistic media businesses such as TELESUR's revenues featuring fundamentalist Muslim media from Iran's state media conglomerate Iranian News Agency and the more peripatetic AL JAZEERA, both of which stream tainted/biased news feeds to TELESUR following Castro's PRENSA LATINA and GRANMA. Muslim-dominated media is now the state media for Ecuador and Venezuela and is the only propaganda machine that Chavez and Correa permit covering their sacred assemblies. This is unacceptable. Muslim-laced media, like all communist media organizations, is never open media and is always restricted media/speech. In a recent piece on the end of democracy's necessary pillar- free speech and open media, Jed Babbin - read it here - writes, "Muslims -- individually and in pressure groups -- are using British libel laws and Canadian “human rights” laws to limit what is said about Islam, terrorists and the people in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere who are funding groups such as al-Queda...Under the US Constitution political writing -- free speech -- is almost unlimited... Those American laws and standards of proof protect political speech...`Harmful journalism' is what tyrants and despots call free speech, especially political speech that condemns their affronts to freedom. Anyone who doesn’t stand forthrightly against these foreign infringements on... [basic] Constitutional rights [to free speech] should receive neither our confidence nor our votes."
In that travesty called Montecristi, only Chavez and Correa's Muslim media and Cuban-Chavez owned state media are permitted in any sense. There are no complete factual transcripts of the proceedings and no one knows what transpires in that unholiest of places because Correa and Chavez will not let the light of day- the light of fact based coverage appear. In fact, their so called media coverage of Correa's Montecristi is stridently closed to free and fair media and free and fair speech. Only the state party positions are permitted in some of the most adolescent and unprofessional media statements seen for many years, leading one to conclude that Correa's media machine is either woefully unprofessional, writes with the journalistic style of a 14 year old, and covers nothing factual.
It is a massive ring of anti-democratic behaviors in Montecristi which bodes nothing good. Each and every day in Montecristi, these secretive/opaque, untrained, unprofessional and highly paid stooges [around $4,000 a month] for Chavez and Correa approve anything that the Venezuelan bloc leaders want from them with no serious debate, no advise and consent, no media permitted, no rapporteurs permitted, no meaningful legislative specialists permitted, and nothing but whole blocks of neo Marxist constitutional manifesto laws allowed. In other words, free speech is not allowed in Montecristi as this secretive gang of unschooled patsies/stoolies/kangaroos/monkeys/political hacks perform their paid job to make the fake appearance that they are beavering away to install democracy in Ecuador when their secretive cabal under Chavez's paid Marxist command and control captain, Sr. Viciano Pastor is converting what remains of the Republic of Ecuador into the Bolivarian Marxist state where no human freedoms have a chance.
Take a minute to listen to the definition of functional, representational democracy by Fred Thompson in his U.S. opening campaign talk here. We commend this not because we are encouraging political support for this or any candidate in any land for we do not and will not, but because Thompson not only defines his own position but presents a historic overview of the core components of democratic republics. He states that there is “a courage that comes in unity...” In other words, there is failure inherent in disjointed, non-unified approaches, which we remind is precisely why it is invaluable to Chavez and Correa's propagandists to continue to promote the myth that the opposition to their sweeping criminality called Bolivarianism has no united, coordinated front. This is acutely obvious in Ecuador where not one lover of liberty has done one thing to reach out, coordinate with freedom lovers everywhere, nor positioned the facts on the front pages of mankind's most receptive ears. By hiding, by running away from our responsibilities, and by pretending that if we coalesce with the forces of crime and corruption, we will thrive and succeed...showing a debauched and manipulative approach to life which has created a failed state called Bolivarianism in Ecuador and Venezuela as well as Cuba. Contrast the democratic structuring as discussed by Thompson, not for what democracy should be or could be, but for what it is by definition and look at what the Chavez-Correa plan for Ecuador remains. You will conclude, as we have, that Chavez and Correa's plan for Ecuador is not democratic and is not legitimate.
Here is a stark picture of Ecuadoreans today...note the utter lack of informed debate, the sheer non existence of will and the utter void of principled leadership:
Yes- Ecuadoreans are self confessed, ethically vacated lemmings marching off a cliff in lock step with Chavez and Correa, selfishly and shamefully refusing to lift one finger to stop their national suicide and disgrace...this effort only requires ignorance for its success. Only just now...very very late, has the missing in action/compromised Chamber of Commerce of Quito responded to Febres Cordero and Mayor Nebot's partial, truncated calls for help.
Read LA HORA here as the constitutional assembly is correctly dubbed as prostitutes, when frankly this gives prostitutes a bad name. Indeed, just about every organization in Ecuador abandoned their responsibilities over the last year for one manipulative ploy or another. Most repugnant was the fake claim, perpetrated not only by the Trafigura business agents building the Chavez cause across Ecuador, but the ridiculous propaganda stemming from the numerous Chambers of Commerce and Ecuadorean American Chamber of Commerce which pressed its own dues paying members to enable the cover up that Correa would be democratic, like Chavez, if and only if they successfully lied about the profound undemocratic behaviors so as to garner yet another U.S. tax payer gift called an ATPDEA extension. This rasher of liars is led by Paul Reichler and Fenton Communications in Washington, D.C. who have informed us that in order to convince the gullible and badly misinformed U.S. Democrats, all Ecuador needs to do is lie a lot, keep on paying Reichler-Fenton as is the case, rely on dishonest NGO reports for more fake analysis, and this U.S. Democratic majority Congress will believe their lies and confer free trade on an undeserving nation, rewarding the deceptions and bestowing laurels on the corrupt. The U.S. Department of State calls this "nation building." We call it...lying to the U.S. Congress. In fact, Ecuadoreans are warned and threatened to not once relay the real facts about Ecuador's dishonest, debauched situation before any in the free world. The U.S. Department of State has physically slammed the door in the face of any freedom lovers from the Andes, only barely supporting Peru and Colombia while abandoning Venezuela and Ecuador in any meaningful sense. None of this is helpful, none is honest, and all of it is repulsive. Only the dishonest are permitted and only the ignorant give support to this mandate of manipulation shown in their refusal to "believe in freedom."
Or more correctly said by Thomas Paine, in the Rights of Man, 1792, “It is monarchical and aristocratical government only that requires ignorance for its support."
Ecuadoreans scream, `sign me up as a stupid ignorant for I, too want to join the lemmings in killing this nation and standing for nothing but failure.'
More correctly put, Ecuadoreans act decisively today to promote killing the very freedoms they worked so hard to achieve not so very long ago. Or as Milton Friedman correctly noted, "Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself." Remind us again why Joe Stiglitz- who hates free markets and loathes Milton Friedman- was backed by Rafael Correa and the U.S. embassy in Quito to daily preach to Ecuadoreans that free markets are evil and that freedom only comes from his bizarre Soros-backed neo Marxism. Joe Stiglitz lied and should have been shunned. Joe Stiglitz is of course the perfect foil for Hugo Chavez and Rafael Correa's illicit promotions to end free markets and freedom itself.
The U.S. embassy in Quito promotes and defines its activities in Ecuador through its promotion of Joe Stiglitz who is himself funded by George Soros and does now promote Chavez's Bolivarian bloc for paid, unprincipled political and self enriching positions clearly in conflict with his tenancy at Colombia University, which should remove him as should U.S. AID's activists across the U.S. embassy in Quito. None less that the OAS's pet rock, the more than 15 years' of US AID money making Valeria Merino- now noticeably affiliated with her long time sponsor John Maisto and Insulza's OAS contract awardees- abused U.S. monies again from US AID to report that Milton Friedman and the so called Washington Consensus of open, transparent and legitimate government is not acceptable because Joe Stiglitz preaches that rule of law is not supportable and that socialism- off the books Marxist business deals and banks with no charters and no purpose except to defraud and create more rackets- is necessary.
Fraud, counterfeiting and contract abuse has been the name of the game for these overpaid so called defenders of democracy- thousands of them now- in Ecuador. These masters of deception call themselves reformers but have yet to exhibit one honorable act or defend liberty in any sense of the word, always selling out freedom lovers for the highest fee. Ecuador, we remind, by their hand, is now a lawless narcostate and the murder capitol of the world which has subverted its own in to a narcodemocracy. Soros and US AID call these democracy building steps.
We call it lives promoting life without laws or character. Or as Theodore Roosevelt long ago noted, “Character, in the long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike.” The unaudited, unaccountable, discredited, and debauched character of Ecuador is not only sullied but is a national and international disgrace. Joe Stiglitz, applauded by Chavistas and the US AID team running the U.S. embassy in Quito again, calls Ecuador a great place when anyone with a brain knows that it is not. Again for tragic-comedic relief from the Inter American Dialogue, just a few months old, from Ecuador's own Cesar Montufar, before his recent change of mind against Correa’s dictatorship, telling Washington, D.C., courtesy of US AID at the Inter-American Dialogue that the USA and Rafael Correa are best of friends. In their own words, the DIALOGUE reported, "In just three months, President Rafael Correa of Ecuador has effectively taken control of every major political institution in the country, creating a "Correa-centered society," according to César Montúfar, the director of the Centro Andino de Estudios Internacionales at the Universidad Andina in Quito. This remarkable consolidation of power was made possible through unconstitutional actions by Correa and the opposition, which have `demolished' the constitutional order in Ecuador, Montúfar said during a May 9 public discussion at the Inter-American Dialogue.
While highlighting this troubling political instability, Montúfar praised Correa for returning popularity and credibility to the government. `There is a sense that we have a government and a group of people really running the country,' he said. `We have a national leader for the first time in a decade.' Correa has declared emergency situations in several sectors, including education, in order to expedite reforms." In other words, Correa completed a self coup, kicked out all known independent state functions, acts as a dictator while all else are his patsies/his kangaroos to rubber stamp his nation gone wilding. No one- no one at all at the DIALOGUE found this strange nor considered that the end of functional democracy was dysfunctional, aberrant or illicit. However, we at ECrisis do and we hold each avatar of liberty's end, which the piece calls `troubling political instability' responsible for not telling the facts and for praising Correa for his capability to seize power. Dictators in any shape or form should be denounced. The DIALOGUE did not, has not and continues its promotional efforts for anything that smells of money-Far Left money that is. No one from US AID even questioned the Correa-Chavez take over of Ecuador and has yet to deliver one fact based analysis of this dead zone. This is possibly due to current celebrations in Quito for the death of democracy that at last they have driven out from Ecuador any legitimate U.S. company or pesky NGOs not to their Soros and U.S/ Senator Dodd backing, for they have. Cesar Montufar, who mostly lives off of U.S. tax dollars, like Valeria Merino and others, is dead wrong about Correa and Chavez, rendering his entire analysis intellectually vacated. Correa is fully aligned with Chavez in every meaningful sense and will perform the full governability framework of the new bloc of Chavez-Cuban narcofascism in the Andes. And still, we look for leaders from the Andes with character to report the facts.
Do you know who in your neighborhood carries a living, breathing moral compass and character? Do you even care?
We hope that at last you do review all of Correa and Chavez's deals with Belarus, with Russia [public and private] and with Iran. The inept but cleverly deceptive aggressive Marxist regime in the fundamentalist Muslim state of Iran today mirrors the failed nation state that is Ecuador and Venezuela with soaring unemployment, ridiculously inept educational systems, shuttered free speech, and shattered human rights, full governmental corruption with unaccountable federal monies as an open wallet for the inner circles, doubled inflation [except where masked by dollarization], doubling prices of rice, poultry and housing while freedom ends.
Iran is a discredited petro state which is incapable of providing for its own citizens, like Ecuador and Venezuela. Chavez and Correa have teamed up with Iran. Andean citizens still have the right to know what this means. Ecuadoreans and all Andean citizens also have the right to know precisely what and who these thousands of so called Cuban doctors, unlicensed as they are and unschooled as they are, are doing because....it is not medicine. Processed and trained inside Venezuela, these agents of propaganda fan out across the hemisphere. Unaccountable human beings are part of the Chavez-Iran proceedings. So too are remarkably massive and largely unknown Russian weapons build ups for Iran which is rapidly devising its own nuclear capabilities in every sense. A superb analysis of the financially bankrupt state of Iran and its latest weapons spree is here from INVESTORS BUSINESS DAILY which reminds the free world to never underestimate Moscow or Iran. Indeed, only fools underestimate mobs/mafias and their hidden dark hand of crime. Ecuadoreans, Cubans, Nicaraguans, Bolivians and Venezuelans however have completely embraced Iran and Russia, surrendering easily what they used to hold most dear, holding cheaply what used to matter most.
Any guesses on weapons resales to Chavez from his pal Mahmoud? No one but a fool does not connect the Russo-Iranian-Venezuelan nexus. The article gives a quick update on how Iran takes care of its soaring poverty, crumbling schools and inept leadership...by a new agreement to recycle its nuclear fuel with Russia: "Iran would return spent fuel rods to Russia, and the International Atomic Energy Agency has surveillance cameras at various Iranian nuclear facilities. But as noted by Henry Sokolski, executive director of the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center who served under Bush 41, the deal brings Tehran frighteningly close to a nuclear warhead. `At any time while it is loading the fuel,' he told the Washington Times, `Tehran could seize it and have enough uranium to fuel its centrifuges at Natanz to make up to 150 crude nuclear weapons.' A year after Bushehr is brought on line, a third of its fuel in the form of near-weapons-grade plutonium is scheduled to be removed from the reactor — enough to make 20 nukes. For a single bomb, Iran would simply have to divert just 5% of the spent fuel. Along with its continued large purchases of Russian air defense systems, Iran continues with a robust missile program that is probably not meant to put an ayatollah on the moon. While everyone made nice concerning Middle East peace at the recent Annapolis conference, Iran tested a new missile, the Ashoura. The Ashoura uses solid fuel, meaning it has an easier and quicker launch sequence that is harder to detect. Its 2,000-kilometer range is capable of reaching Israel, U.S. bases in the Middle East and Eastern Europe."
This then is what Ecuador and Venezuela's new partner in crime is up to. Tragically, none of this is discussed in Ecuador or Venezuela: it is forbidden or irresponsibly "forgotten" in the rush to pretend that nothing else matters except one's own self absorbed agenda. We fail when we fail to work together as a team.
As in Iran, no one in Ecuador knows where the state income is or where it has gone. As in Iran, no one is allowed to question that statist systems. In Ecuador, as in Iran, all laws are made now by a phony people's council which knows nothing about laws and of course cares even less. The just-passed Ecuadorean tax law, admirably covered in Ecuadorean media for what little it knows about this new income redistribution plan and is of course aberrantly always a day late and never actually permitted on site/to source first hand any story, shows that Ecuador will now have no due process and no recourse to any state mandates whatsoever, following Iran's plan and of course the revered Castro-Chavez plan for inept Ecuadoreans.
Do you hold a belief in freedom or do you hold more dear your addiction to manipulative non freedom persuasions?
Correa and Chavez's paid hacks in the USA named Soros's own Paul Reichler, Fenton Communications in orchestration with the U.S. embassy staffers in Quito [to `help the poor' and `break the oligarchs'] have all advised Ecuador that the facts about Correa's dictatorship and undemocratic, criminal kleptocratic politburo must not be uttered even as Chavez and Correa's own Muslim media businesses shut down open media and free speech. Without a whimper, Ecuadoreans bought this ridiculously depraved advice, abandoning their own principles and respect for truth telling on false grounds. This depraved illicit advice has been warmly received by lazy, irresponsible Ecuadoreans who found this shallow deceit convenient to more manipulations which they have been advised will line their wallets. Convenient that is until small glimmers of past morality eked a tiny warning.
More obviously, when Ecuadoreans woke up from their embarrassing inertia and abandonment of self respect to realize that Correa's income redistribution plan, also called his new Tax Law is a neo Marxist nightmare. Correa's new law, passed illegally by the illegal assembly in Monecristi insures that no Ecuadorean will ever again have or hold due process, will hold no capacity for legal redress for state grievances and state theft. Tragically, the domestic advice that Ecuadoreans are well served and furthered when they do nothing but sell out their principles to Correa and Chavez, have brought them to this state of rape. And rape by the state it is for there are no remedies for anyone in Ecuador and the mentality of the manipulative has just been exposed for what it is: a failed, foolish disaster that has failed all of Ecuador.
Bloomberg's News, read it here parrots the Chavez-Correa "news" releases about the new Marxist financial plan for Ecuador called the abhorrent new tax law. The article does report, "Critics, including former tax office head Elsa de Mena and former Economy Minister Mauricio Pozo, have said some provisions in the package may limit company liquidity and choke economic growth. A 0.5 percent tax on currency outflows could reduce foreign investment, they added. The currency outflow tax exempts profits or loan repayments sent abroad from Ecuadorean units of foreign companies." And that is the good news while the bad news- the communist restructuring of Ecuadorean life- is sweeping and not substantively reported by any even as not one Ecuadorean has even made one effort to provide the facts anyway. With no functional review of the 80 plus page state asset seizure plan, called the new tax law manifesto while focusing on simply a very few commendable efforts to collect taxes while ignoring the denial of all human rights to due process, state asset seizure, imprisonment with no trial, and of course no rights to free speech or self defense as is the national law today in Ecuador under this sweeping Chavez-Correa so called tax plan. Viciano Pastor is on a roll now while no Ecuadorean has lifted one finger to expose, denounce or rectify their own self imprisonment and state theft. Then again, no Ecuadorean denounced Ecuador's state theft of OCCIDENTAL's billions and are disgraced today when it comes to demands for action against state theft. Contrary to what Ecuador's manipulative Mamas tell us, life is not disjointed and ethics are not to be manipulated. It is all of a piece. It was not OK to steal from OCCIDENTAL then and it is not OK to steal from regular citizens today even if this is called the great new income redistribution tax laws.
It is time for Ecuadoreans to reject the ridiculously dishonorable, incompetent advice from their "domestic advisors" and reach past the adolescent and self professed uneducated manipulative mind set which has brought Ecuador to the gravesite in a land with no rights, no affection, no respect and a cold, harsh future on the horizon with little to cheer them onward, as manipulative plans always do. Instead of pretending that respect is derived from how much one can successfully manipulate, whine and deceive, Ecuadoreans have a chance now to grow up and finally work toward abruptly ending their lives of manipulative desperations. But most Ecuadoreans wanted their irresponsible status as manipulative fools and now they have it- in spades. Like the hyperactive chickens that they are, Ecuadoreans should stop clucking and running around in circles, cease pretending that their manipulative games can save their nation and their wallet, and start acting like responsible adults. Acting as responsible adults requires that Ecuadoreans first cancel their addictions to manipulative living and perform coordinated next steps to pledge their sacred honor toward restoring functional liberties which have just been removed.
Reading the U.S. Declaration of Independence is a good place to begin. But Ecuadoreans, enjoying their meaningless vapid lives of manipulative deceit and depraved indifference both inside Ecuador and littering the canyons of Miami's Brickell Avenue, refuse to stand on principles or prepare their approach to returning their nation to a semblance of operational normality. It starts with truth telling. What truths do you hold self-evident, if at all?
Today in Colombia, Chavez has inserted yet another paid propagandist named Oliver Stone to praise Hugo Chavez and create harm to Alvaro Uribe's principled positions. While we hold that no captives should be held by the terror group known as the FARC, a good place to begin is not with the debauched Stone but rather with Hugo Chavez shutting off his profiteering rackets with the FARC. Chavez aids and abets the FARC and this must stop. Oliver Stone now represents Hugo Chavez's efforts to expand the criminal FARC empire as noted here. Stone is not a credentialed journalist and is of course a flawed film maker, himself exhibiting the same delusions known to all substance abusers such as delusional irrational behaviors. Like Michael Moore foolishly trying to promote the glorious Cuban health care efforts which are horrific at best, Stone- and all his Chavez and Soros backed unhinged agents of hatred have no place in this struggle for life in Colombia's jungles. These are not truth tellers no matter how much Chavez will self promote across his new tools for deceit called Iranian News and AL JAZEERA broadcasting for TELESUR across the globe. This is a staged, made-for-TV event to boost Chavez's ratings with all the hallmarks of state propaganda. No one in the USA respects Oliver Stone except the loonies, the DailyKos conspiracy theorists whose own hatred for democracy has convinced them that Chavez is right that Bush himself ordered the death of thousands on 9-11 and also that Soros is right that Bush is a Nazi. George Bush is no Nazi and the 9-11 attacks were not ordered by Bush, regardless of what Soros, Stone and Chavez tell us. Last we checked, Soros has repeated that he himself claims to have no morals whatsoever. Chavez is a pathetic pathological liar and Oliver Stone is a washed up manipulatively deceptive guy like Michael Moore who is now making money off these communist regimes and schemes, at the expense of the "poor" whom they claim to revere.
Anyone looking for the facts about the FARC or Hugo Chavez, will never get this from Oliver Stone. Stone makes movies about the glories of Castro's gulags and lies about history, which of course uniquely prepares him to promote Chavez. Stone now wants to present a biopic on the glorious murdering regime called Iran. We do not know if Soros will help fund this directly as he does for so many movies at the Sundance Festival or if Chavez and Castro and Correa will help fund this. Somehow we do not see the Mullahs approving Oliver Stone's - errr what do they call it-? legalizing habits. Being honest is not what Stone does nor what he is paid to do. He is not serious and he is discredited. Like all who work for Hugo Chavez, nothing honorable takes place there in Stone's world which is only one step away from Soros's NATION Magazine and the DAILYKos kids' screed of yellow journalism for the practitioners of US bashing and self loathing, sometimes called the Fora de Sao Paulo and other times called the Democratic Party of the USA, now under the Soros pocket plan. The victimized hostages of the FARC deserve far far better than this dishonest propagandist named Stone who now works for Chavez and his bloc of nations and who have teamed up with the FARC. Alvaro Uribe and the USA welcome factual reporting. Chavez-Correa's Islamic media circus welcomes....Oliver Stone, substituting propaganda for journalism.
When good men do nothing, history repeats itself or more pathetically, citizens accept the dribble from Oliver Stone's revisionist history and propaganda as fact. When good men and women do nothing, nothing good happens. Again, all Ecuadoreans should at last- for the first time in their lives- study the U.S. DECLARATION of INDEPENDENCE. The leaders knew that there was no way to succeed against tyranny by manipulative adolescent foolishness and confronted the problems head-on with responsibility, pledging their lives, their fortunes and their honor. The document notes that the courts were kangaroo courts, the elected offices were patsies and acted in sole deference to the state leader, that the state had abolished their elected assemblies and brought in paid mercenaries to advance what was correctly deemed perfidy and cruelty, also called paid state propaganda and lies [perfidy] as well as new muscle. Also notable was the abuse by the statist government of the "indigenous" to create staged disruptions and destructions.
You will want to study every word of this document and consider what good men can do when they chose to stop their manipulative gamesmanship and act decisively to advance their own destinies. Maybe you will start to feel better about yourself because no one in Ecuador- except the Chavistas- feels good at all these days. The morning after the failure of the plan for manipulative living has cost all dearly. It did not work. Maybe now Ecuadoreans will at last abandon their excuses at destructive isolationism and at last "declare the causes that impel them." We know what has compelled Ecuadoreans for the last 4 years. It failed every matter. It did not work. Maybe now Ecuadoreans will begin to pledge to each other their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor because their earnings have just been seized, their lives are subjected to the Chavez-Iranian state and their honor is meaningless.
Do you know where your honor is??
-Pedro Camargo for ECrisis
