Failed and Incompetent Economist Correa Locks in Cuban Economic Model in Ecuador:

Impotent Ecuadoreans Live in State Run Kindergarten while Correa Crafts Disneyworld Tourism for Mafia Cartels and State Sponsors of Terror

January 6, 2008   ECrisis has noted before on numerous occasions that Ecuador's president Rafael Correa is badly educated and is not an economist of any substance or value. Indeed, his own "economic" research and performance is little more than political spewings to encourage Marxist socialism and was not very clever at that, relying as he does on 20 year old political rhetoric which is supposed to replace sound economic planning, which has never existed in the world of Rafael Correa.  Correa is of course an angry and complex, incompetent man who has lied about everything in his life, has cheated through his life and has been fired from every job he ever held.

He needs to be fired now. Correa has spent his entire life trying to justify crime and communism. As such, to Correa these adventures are all of a piece now with a total roll out underway of his complete dictatorial powers and his command and control of all portions of Ecuadorean life into what he, himself has said will be a replica of the Cuban model.

We at ECrisis have not once understood why anyone did not pay attention to the warning signs. Correa himself gave/delivered thousands of warning signs of his own complicity with Hugo Chavez and the Fora de Sao Paulo neo communists. Correa has repeated his vows, more sacred than his own marriage vows, that he will convert Ecuador in to a replica of the Cuban system. Correa has been consistent: he has only ever acted to manipulate and deceive; starting off with a whole string of cover ups and lies as he and his Chavez-funded compadres have done.

This is reaching a point where none can pretend any longer that Correa is an ally of the USA and that Correa is not a communist. Rafael Correa is a state sponsor of terror in many ways and is truly installing a Cuban communist structure in Ecuador. With a dictatorial command and control now in Ecuador from the STASI trained Venezuelan DISIP and Cuban-Russian intelligence operatives, complete with governmental managers and script writers, Ecuador is over run by the so called Bolivarian bloc and is no longer a free agent for anything. Ecuador has been converted to junior member of the new communist trifecta. With the winning ticket in its hand, of course all Ecuadoreans lose in this trifecta with nothing to gain but more misery and the end of their time as a democracy, which functionally ended one year ago today.

For Ecuadoreans, it is one thing to wake up the next morning with a massive headache and survey the garbage from the ruinous party of the night before from vacations from responsible living now running for three years. It is another thing to determine what to do about the garbage of one's living through the vacation of the last three years. Ecuador had and held a ruinous party- an orgy of depravity and manipulative activities called governing by Correa [which is not governing] which followed the ridiculous last years of Gutierrez and the vapid Palacio and is now walking through the three year vacation hang over of a trash-strewn landscape wondering how they could have been so stupid as to buy into the pledge that "CHANGE" alone under Correa's Cuban model was going to be fabulous.

Life is not a boozy cruise ship full of empty promises of state give aways or religiosity heralded by shallow ritual. And while we commend Cuban citizens for demanding CAMBIO! from Castro's island prison, in Ecuador....the ridiculously undereducated population voted themselves into change....changing against history and placing themselves smack dab in the middle of a Cuban communist system, reversing the growing trends in Cuba itself which after 50 years sees its own people dreaming of ending the communist tyranny...even as Ecuadoreans cheerfully march like manipulative and bribed idiots into the same Cuban communism which Cubans now rally to remove. Not studying history and not paying attention to the world around us has given us a whole nation called Ecuador of manipulative, undereducated fools who are easily tricked by Correa and manipulated into their own demise. Today Ecuadoreans prefer impotence to the power of truth and this is a truly sad state of affairs.

Review this analysis of Castro's Cuba, now run by Venezuela in co-management gone wilding, here.

Pay attention to the direct parallels of the Montecristi conversion plan and the Cuban plan for ruinous nationhood. "In his five decades of absolutist rule, Castro has created nothing short of an utter disaster of which he is solely responsible.

During his tenure as Maximum Leader, Cuba has become an economic sinkhole. Just ask the Russians, no experts themselves, whether Fidel knows anything about running an economy. They doled out billions of dollars annually in hard currency to supplement Fidel's command economy totaling 35% of Cuba's annual GDP. Tack on another billion or so in remittances from hard working Cuba Americans to family back on the island prison and the financial windfall equals more than 40% of Cuba's GDP! All generated outside its borders! Yet, Castro still managed to indebt Cuba to the tune of US$36 billion.

The catastrophe that has befallen Cuba is rooted squarely in the very structure of the command economy instituted by Castro, where private property, individual rights and any semblance of freedom are non-existent.

Without fundamental changes in the economic and social structure of Cuba, absolutely nothing would change on the island with the lifting of the embargo. The people of Cuba are penniless serfs who would remain economically paralyzed because capitalist ventures are outlawed. Hard currency is tolerated but only in the strictest sense, and at Castro's whim, criminal. Most of the slight liberalizations undertaken immediately following the fall of the Soviet Union have been rescinded with the advent of Castro's new welfare donor, Chavez. Gone are the small neighborhood restaurants that were only marginally profitable since Castro's thugs, much like street criminals, were constantly coming around for shakedowns.

Employment with hotels and foreign ventures are done strictly through a national agency run by Raul Castro and his military in order to screen employees and siphon hard currency as employees are paid only a fraction of what is charged to the foreign entity. Employees are then paid in worthless Cuban pesos while, ironically and quite tellingly, Castro demands payment in US dollars. Cubans are also constitutionally forbidden to travel, even within the island and are strictly forbidden to enter tourist areas. Unless, of course, you happen to be a prostitute since that has become a cottage industry for Raul's military units. Quite ironic, when you consider Castro's 1950s admonishments that Cuban women would never again be forced to prostitute themselves to foreigners. But when Fidel and the boys are strapped for cash there are no depths to which they won't force everyday Cubans to stoop.

For decades, Castro has been clinging to a failed ideology that has impeded Cuba's development and savagely impoverished its population. It's easy for the Danny Glovers and Charles Rangels of the world to idealize the worker's paradise from the comfort of their American homes, quite another to live under Castro's tyrannical misery. So while these apologists, who exhibit nothing but distrust and disdain for the democratically elected government of the US, can somehow hypocritically bring themselves to point to the unsubstantiated statistics of a dictator as proof of his accomplishments, realists understand that the collapse of the Soviet block exposed totalitarian figures for what they are; completely worthless."

The author further notes that the U.S. embargo remains in place against Cuba because Cuba remains a state sponsor of terror and has probably cost the dictatorship under $ one hundred billion which was subsidized by Soviet Russia and now Hugo Chavez. "The same remains true today where a temporarily oil-rich Chavez must siphon billions to support Castro that he would otherwise use to create Bolivarian dictatorships through insurgency, political intrusion as appears to be the case in Argentina or buying political favors at home. Castro himself does not deny that he was responsible for fomenting "revolutions" throughout the Americas and Africa; to the contrary, he relishes it. He openly admits he tried to topple governments. It's been estimated that a lifting of the US embargo would add only US$1.8 billion to Castro's coffers annually, the vast majority coming from tourism. While it is hardly enough to fix what ails Cuba, it is however significantly more than the nations of Latin America spend on their military, allowing Castro to receive those funds would be disastrous and irresponsible.

Ultimately, the embargo is in place because of Castro's many sins and the danger he poses to the region. He  has murdered tens of thousands; imprisoned an entire population; funded and fomented Marxist revolutions throughout Africa, Central and South America; given safe haven to terrorists from FARC to the PLO to the IRA to the Weathermen; been complicit in narco-trafficking with the likes of Noriega; and repressed religion, individual freedom, and freedom of speech. Human Rights Watch has dubbed his tyrannical government the repressive machinery and Amnesty International has condemned him for his reprehensible treatment of the Cuban people...can no longer escape the reality that a communist-style command economy simply doesn't work. There can be no economic prosperity without reforms and liberalizations can no longer escape the reality that a communist-style command economy simply doesn't work" This is what Correa has promised the people of Ecuador: Castro's Cuba and as Cuba's regime seeks newer places to stash their illicit monies, Correa hopes they will join the gaited FARC compounds outside Quito instead of Chile. These are not good signs for "development."

Today, the MIAMI HERALD, read it here, factually points out the disasters of nations where law and order is not even handed: crime. In this case, Mexico is suffering a huge deterioration in tourism because of crime. Tourism does not flourish where crime is rampant.

The influx of the human traffickers and drug runners to Mexico, on a scale not seen in recent history, has created a multinational cartel of narcoterrorists who think nothing, like their Hezbollah comrades, of cutting your head off.

Today Rafael Correa is busy telling us that in the globe's murder capitol called Ecuador where a narcodemocracy has ruined public security...that he- the supreme dictator- will mandate tourism to rebuild Ecuador's economy which he has foolishly destroyed in less than one year while effectively commandeering the entire landscape. In general, Ecuador has much to offer tourists thanks to the grace of the Creator. But in fact, Ecuador has little to sustain a tourist trade because Correa despises the essentials to sustain tourism, not the least of which is even handed law and order.

And who does he think will flood Ecuador's chilly beaches and expensive hotels? The generous Belgians who themselves live inside a primordial state pension system of their own middle class ways? As we all know, no Belgian is a spender on anything and certainly no Belgian has lifted one finger in development in Ecuador. The Spanish? The Spanish will not "tour" Ecuador in droves more than they do. In Spain of course the locals jack boot innocent Ecuadoreans and beat the life out of them for race-baiting fun and hate filled xenophobia. Of course Correa says that these are just young people who need more love- while they beat the life out of innocents. North Americans? Americans are not welcome in Ecuador. The U.S. embassy has seen to it that no Americans, unless hired by their now doubled US AID budget contractors or pre approved by George Soros anti Colombia activists- are welcome. Americans are lied to and abused by their would be advocates. Business executives are not as stupid as Ecuadorians and do not believe for one second the propaganda from Correa because the facts do not support his frauds. In fact, U.S. "diplomats"- also called paid propagandists for the Left- have gone so far as to actually tell Americans and Ecuadoreans that the U.S. embassy "adores" and "embraces" Correa's regime because he is successfully destroying private business and driving out U.S. corporate investments which all U.S. embassy staff de facto consider the primary "evil" in Ecuador. This foolishness and aberrant tom foolery has given the USA a bad name and an even worse reputation as useless. No one seriously enters the U.S. embassy in Ecuador unless they are some pro FARC contractor or on a routine mission whereupon none will be handed the real facts...only a recycled PowerPoint presentation of non facts. The Ecuadorean regime itself has destroyed what little attraction Ecuador holds for tourists by removing law and order and decriminalizing crime. Contrast the remarkable boom in Colombia's tourism industry, despite the FARC menace which is real and Peru's major tourist attractions- post Shining Path- and you understand that Correa's regime, like Chavez's, have errantly destroyed the one thing they claim will save their economy- tourism.

If Correa were actually a trained economist who had real life experience in real world economics instead of a fake shopping mall degree from a huge degree mill school in Illinois [not unlike most universities in Ecuador where no relevant content is taught and certainly nothing remotely resembling competent academic instruction], he would know that no economy survives long that is not multifaceted, offering numerous economic sectors. Before Correa destroyed Ecuador's free trade, one half and more of its GDP was vibrant: flowers, bananas, and fish. The other half was oil. Correa does not want any looking at how he has sold out Ecuador's oil revenues to his open wallet plan with Chavez and Iran and Correa certainly does not want Ecuadoreans to know that because he insists that Ecuador convert to a narcodemocracy in support of the FARC, that the USA will cut it off from free trade which is an appropriate step. Instead, Correa wants to tell you that all problems will end when he alone dictates that tourism alone will be Ecuador's new business. And because he also forces all hotels and restaurants to be smoke free, he will cut off most European tourists except the cheapest bargain hunters from Belgium and Germany who actually think that holding hands and singing Kumbaya around a campfire is a valid substitute for real living. The appeal is shallow and the multitudes of cheap tourists and back packers will never sustain anything except state run hostelries and state run kindergartens, which is what Ecuador is today: a state run kindergarten for children who refuse to act responsibly and grow up.

Ecuadoreans want to live inside Correa's new state run kindergarten because none want to be reliably responsible for anything due to their primary addiction to manipulative living as enshrined from birth. This is a costly self imprisonment now and as always happens, leads to dead end lives for these adolescents whose selfishness is not only a disgrace but epidemic, on a scale not seen since Nero ordered Romans to keep fiddling while the country burned from its own corruption and incompetence. Like Correa's ridiculous mandate that everything in Ecuador must be smoke free, he forgets his own schizophrenia that he has also enabled drug running and dope smokers across Ecuador. While busy arresting non psychotropic cigar smokers, Correa gives a free ride to drug abusers. And believes that this will make Ecuador a family friendly tourist capitol while doing not one thing to stop drug running, money laundering, partnering with narcoterrorists, partnering with Iran's sponsorship of terror, xenophobia and racism while bankrupting what remains of Ecuador's once vibrant economy. Indeed, Correa's new tourism plan is to make Ecuador the tourist capitol of the globe for murderers, criminals, cartels, mobs and money movers. Correa tells us that they just need some extra love and he will give them this love by handing all state real estate to their care for one giant state criminal empire. Somehow in all this we feel sure that Correa is acting out some Freudian vindication of his criminal, drug running cartel backed suicidal papa even while his own mama instructed him to manipulate all of life, as is the Ecuadorean way of dysfunction. Freudian vindication and justification of crime is best left inside the psychiatrist's office and not acted out on the national stage, as is the case because no one in Ecuador had the integrity to get Correa to a professional for his psychoses. In fact, his own mama ran away too...to the USA to avoid any responsible adult living as so many Ecuadoreans do. It is a national habit now.

In converting Ecuadoreans in to a state run kindergarten, Correa seriously believes he can convert Ecuador in to a Disneyworld for drug runners, murderers, kidnappers, communists and the global community of pornographers, transvestites and sex criminals. His plan is working to the extent that Correa has rolled out the welcome mat for all perversities as long as they vote to sustain this Alternative Democracy called Bolivarianism, which of course most do anyway where the alternative to law and order- crime and death- is the national standard now. Any legitimate investor and business owner today is either run off or facing jail sentences in Quito for being legitimate. Nothing legal is welcome any more in Ecuador. Only rackets, criminal empires and money launderers are welcome. Congratulations, Ecuador: You are now Sorosville, promoting every societal more promoted by the debauched George Soros. Maybe he will help run the Galapagos with Chavez and the FARC for fun and profit now.

There is a better way. Get some adult help. Manipulative adolescents will never help- they like living inside the state run kindergarten. Stop complaining, stop blaming everyone else, get out of this self imposed manipulative kindergarten run by the state now and stop self imprisoning. Grow up and breath the free air by resisting this criminal crime spree which is the ultimate dysfunction.

As the article on Cuba reminds us....with the identical applying to Ecuador, the Dali Llama correctly notes, "We each create our own reality and for that we are solely responsible."
