Ecuador is Not a Democracy
October 19, 2008 ECrisis reprints here a piece from today's media in Miami which appears to be a rebut to what Correa's plenipotentiary in Washington recently paid a lot of money to circulate purportedly proclaiming the glories of Correa's new constitution, with only the Miami Herald taking it on. Ecuador vs. democracy
Ecuador's ''new'' constitution was promoted in Luis Gallegos Chiriboga's Oct. 8 Other Views column, New constitution good for democracy. However, Gallegos, ambassador for Ecuador to the United States, fails to mention that numerous articles in the ''constitution'' hand full powers of the courts and every governmental or civic duty over to one man, Rafael Correa, Ecuador's president, potentially in power until 2017.
Correa teamed with a group of so-called constitutional scholars out of Caracas, plus FARC-supporting ''academicians from Spain'' representing the old Communist Party who co-authored the recent Bolivian and Venezuelan constitutions. Understandably, Ecuador's Catholic bishops rightly fear that Correa will seize all religious schools.
Although Correa repeatedly informed Ecuadoreans that they had no need to study the more than 150-page constitution, which they voted on in the fall, Correa himself oversaw a genuine restriction of open discussion and debate about the contents.
This so-called constitution also ensures safe haven for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as FARC, while legalizing narcotics. Of additional concern is a mandate in Article 418, that only leaves one to conclude that Ecuador is now formally inside the Chávez bloc of Bolivia and Venezuela.
The president of Ecuador calls this the ''new democracy.'' But this constitutional manifesto is not new, and it is not democracy.

Ecuador VS Democracy;not a such thing,democracy is not longer in effect in Ecuador;is going,it was going for a while already,since Rafael Correa was elected the president of the ecuadoreans.
They are celebrating the victory the last september the 28th ,when the referendum won with the 63 % of the votes.
There is not democracy;not at all,but the dictator said the country live the most transparent democracy ever;the new constitution,said the contrary.!!
The chavista manifest,(bosquejo chavista)know as constitution,with 444 articles,approved during speedy sessions with out of any debate,is approved by the ecuadorean people;even after Rafael Correa said there in the constitution he found so many barbarities and out of sence,but he recomend that the ecuadorean citizens not have to read the 444 articles;the onlything that they have to do was,"trust in the goverment"because they have autodenominated themsleves as ," transparent goverment with clean hands and honest people",funy,very funy,right?
Now,the constituent assembly;is coming back,yeah that is correct,they are coming back in different format,they called themselves a "congresillo",a little congress,they are coming back to finish the major asault to the ecuadorean state,the are fooling tio the ecuadorean people;they said that they are part of the transition goverment,they will be the legislative power,they were any way as soon they were elected.
If my memory still running ok,the constituent assembly was elected to write a new constitution,just said they did,even after everybody knew they won't.
They already have received the 13th salar(christmas),they already receiced,vacation pay,and their final payment for serving to the country(liquidacion)but they are coming back,in the good name of the democracy.!!,funy right?
Correa's party will have the majority and the control of this fraud called "congresillo",which will be the copy of the assembly from Montecristi,they will be there jut to raise their hands and said YES to everything Correa and his political buro wants.!!
Is that democracy?,when the real power is only in one hand,Correa's hand and the desisions will be just coming from carondelet,because,there is the Hugo Chavez's pupil,el muchacho,who does what Chavez want,Iran,Rusia,are the new friend of Ecuador;just as Chavez did with Venezuela.
Democracy..?where?,how?,in the new constitution?,please don't make me to laugh so hard,it's funy but i don't want to laugh,while the ecuadoreans are fooled by Correa and associates.!!
Thanks e-crisis for informing to the world what is going on in Ecuador,the brand new socialist state,thanks to Correa and his assembly,the hands raisers,corrupted elected just for one mission,but they are part of the major joke to the ecuadorean people.As the vicepresident said,"Smail Ecuador,part II"do he really thinks there is a reason for smail or for cry?
We will see..is only matter of time.!!!
